Kaingo, a family friendly reserve, offers guests unique wildlife experiences, thrilling activities and picturesque natural assets in abundance. There is an exclusive programme of activities for guests to tailor-make their stay.
Sweeping across 22,500 acres of bush veld savannah, river, valley and mountains, Kaingo represents a piece of Africa as it used to be with the mighty Mokolo river weaving through breath-taking landscapes.
Kaingo aptly meaning ‘place of the leopard’, is a place of rare and rugged African bush-veld beauty, abundant wildlife and prolific birdlife. The Reserve offers large unspoilt wilderness areas where the discerning nature lover can experience the best of the Waterberg in its original state.
It is the diversity of habitat on the reserve that encourages such a wide range of wildlife. The grassy plains and savanna abound with animals such as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and impala, and predators are always close.
Kaingo is one of the finest places to participate in conservation, watch wildlife, experience the Waterberg and feel the spirit of true Africa.
Kaingo is home to over 50 different mammals including Lion, Elephant, Buffalo and Leopard. It is home to several endangered and rare species too, such as Tsessebe, Brown hyena, Pangolin, Honey badger and Sable.
Several nocturnal species can best be seen at night including Aardvark, Serval, Bush baby and African wild cat. The grassy plains and savanna abound with animals such as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and impala.
Reminiscent of a traditional African safari camp, the Lodge offers a luxurious safari accommodation experience. Built from natural stone with thatch roofs, the lodge has an olde worlde-Africa atmosphere while being completely contemporary.
Just 28 guests in total can be accommodated at Elephant Lodge, with the focus on personal attention, superb service and complete comfort.
Elephant Lodge allow for excellent views of the surrounding plains. Lovely walks and picnics can be enjoyed in the large garden that is home to a variety of trees, plants, wild animals and birds.

Guests of Kaingo are treated to unique personal experiences of the bushveld and exciting close-up game viewing under the expert guidance of qualified field guides who love to share their knowledge of the African bush and its wildlife.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the African bush, while your skilled field guide provides hidden details and fascinating facts about the surrounding wildlife and nature. A low vehicleto- reserve ratio means you are unlikely to encounter other vehicles during your safari - leaving just you and your guide alone in a vast, scenic wilderness.
An abundance of bird and animal life makes for exciting game viewing whilst enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the Mokolo River. Enjoy an interactive boat trip, where guests can view crocs lazing, hear fish eagles calling, see the elephant cooling off and spot the occasional hippo yawning.
Photographic opportunities abound and this is the ideal opportunity for taking in the spectacular sunset views as the birds wing their way home and the bushveld slowly turns to dusk.
The birdlife is prolific and the Reserve is a Birdwatcher’s paradise with a variety of eagles, nightjars, flycatchers, bee-eaters, kingfisher, storks and too many others to mention. There is also the rare opportunity of spotting the elusive Nerina Trogon, African Finfoot and nesting Black Storks.
Our guides are expert companions with extensive knowledge of flora and fauna, animal spoor and animal tracking. They will ensure an unforgettable experience.
Kaingo has an unusual abundance of rock art dating back more than 1,000 years depicting the lives of the San, Khoekhoe and Iron Age Farmers.
Feel Africa underfoot on a guided bush walk with a highly trained field guide. The experience offers an intimate encounter with nature and wildlife along the way. The vistas from these trails are second-to-none, presenting Africa in all its vastness.
